If you have the design migration option selected in your store settings, then you have been getting notifications of your new products. In this case, the copying of your iPhone 6 cases on to iPhone 7 cases.
Design migration is a wonderful time and finger saver. In our situation, it saved us from creating slightly more than 2,000 iPhone 7 cases.
But the process is not perfect and you should take the time to go through your new cases, make edits and set up your auto-marketing systems.
We've found that some specific text with a fun photo works best on our "add your own photo" products. There are about eight of these we need to change out. This text would be fine without the phone model included. We'll change that out to "Custom Phone Case" so we won't have this issue with iPhone 8. We'll trade out this image and create a new product, then delete this one.
By far our biggest job in this migration is changing the merchandising views from vertical to horizontal. It is a rather slow process as you can only do one case at a time. There is no global option. But it must be done as the case looks so much better.
Your new migrated cases are in the same store category as your iPhone 6 cases. Most of our cases are categorized by model, so all the new iPhone 7 cases were in our iPhone 6 category. (Our auto-tweeting system for iPhone 6 cases started tweeting the 7s almost immediately.) We created a new category for iPhone 7 and then went into the iPhone 6 category, filtered by iPhone 7 and moved them until there were no more 7s left. Working from within the iPhone 6 category rather than the listing of all products let us know when we had finished moving all the cases. Even with several thousand cases this went rather quickly.
Our RSS feeds for phone cases use the store category. So once the iPhone 7 cases were in their own category, we set up a new auto-tweeting system for these cases. With new product it is good to be first and we wanted to be promoting right away. Setting up an auto-tweeting system for our new iPhone 7 cases took about 15 minutes, thanks in part to our RSS Feed Maker. Afterward, every half an hour we were tweeting a new iPhone 7 case with picture, title and link with our Associate ID. With this system in place, we'll begin the work listed above.
If you prefer to auto-tweet using department codes, the code for iPhone 7 is 252358843827725632. And the code for iPhone 7+ is 252559074943314056.
